What is NAMI?

NAMI is the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. NAMI advocates for access to services, treatment, supports and research and is steadfast in its commitment to raise awareness and build a community for hope for all of those in need.

Our mission is mental health

NAMI Alameda County South’s Mission is to empower individuals with mental illness and their caregivers to facilitate recovery to the extent of their ability.

EDUCATE

We offer an array of peer education and training programs, initiatives and services for individuals, family members, health care providers and the general public. NAMI and volunteer grassroots leaders are committed to education as the pathway to recovery, empowerment and wellness.

SUPPORT

Our support and public education efforts are focused on educating America about mental illness, offering resources to those in need, and insisting that mental illness become a high national priority. Mental illness affects one in four families. Treatment works, but only half of people living with mental illness receive treatment.

ADVOCATE

NAMI is recognized as the preeminent voice on Capitol Hill and in state houses across the country for the millions of Americans living with serious mental illness. Our advocates have fought for policy changes that raise the bar on mental illness care and promote treatment and research on par with other illnesses.
